Discover the Gibson J-185, an acoustic gem that combines tradition and innovation to deliver exceptional sound.

Overview

The first Gibson J-185, introduced in 1951, quickly became a benchmark thanks to its accessible size and its clear, powerful tones. With the GIBSON Original Collection SJ-185 (OCJB85HFVS), you get a model that preserves classic features while incorporating modern Baggs HiFi DNA preamp technology for an unparalleled acoustic experience.

All-solid-wood construction for a rich, balanced sound

The J-185 features an all-solid-wood construction and combines traditional materials to produce a breathtaking sound:

• Sitka spruce top
• Maple body and sides
• Maple neck
• Rosewood fingerboard (20 frets)

This combination delivers excellent clarity and percussiveness, especially in the low end. Its jumbo body gives the instrument a sound that is both powerful and warm, ideal for singers, songwriters, and fans of country, Americana, or traditional folk music.

A Revolutionary Preamp System for Optimal Performance

The J-185 Original stands out for its Baggs HiFi DNA system, which revolutionizes recording:

• Two pickups positioned under the bridge
• Separate recording of string vibrations and soundboard vibrations
• Active preamps for each pickup
• Volume and tone controls integrated into the soundhole

Thanks to this technology, the instrument produces a natural and dynamic sound that faithfully captures its original acoustic character, delivering unparalleled audio performance.
