Active subwoofer
The HK Audio ELEMENTS MK2 110 Sub A is an active subwoofer designed for professional ELEMENTS MK2 setups, particularly for corporate events, conferences, and installations where compactness is just as important as speech intelligibility. It combines a 10-inch driver, built-in amplification, and the DSP processing required to drive compatible column elements. It should therefore not be viewed as a simple standalone subwoofer, but rather as an active base for the ELEMENTS MK2 modular system.
Key Features
- 10-inch speaker with a 2.5-inch voice coil to complement the ELEMENTS MK2 midrange/tweeter modules in the low-frequency and low-midrange ranges.
- Built-in 900 W RMS Class D amplification, with a rated peak power of 1,800 W.
- Two E-Connect MK2 outputs to power and directly connect compatible column speakers.
- Integrated DSP with Flat, Contour, Voice, and Remote presets to adapt the system’s operation to different applications.
- Ethernet network connection and Milan AVB compatibility to integrate the subwoofer into a suitable networked audio infrastructure.
- Can be installed vertically or horizontally to accommodate the constraints of a stage or event setup.
What role does the 110 Sub A play in an ELEMENTS MK2 system?
The 110 Sub A provides both bass reinforcement and the necessary amplification for the ELEMENTS MK2 column modules connected to its E-Connect MK2 outputs. It thus serves as one of the active components around which a modular configuration can be built.
Its 10-inch driver prioritizes a compact design and the reproduction of the bass and low-midrange frequencies required for speech and music playback applications. For applications requiring very deep bass extension, the complete system must be sized accordingly.
How do you connect the ELEMENTS MK2 columns?
Two E-Connect MK2 outputs are provided for compatible midrange/tweeter modules. This interface handles both the electrical connection and the mechanical integration required by the system, minimizing visible cabling in a complete installation.
The subwoofer is therefore not intended to power just any passive speaker. The connected modules must be part of the configurations specified by HK Audio for the ELEMENTS MK2.
What are the DSP presets for?
The built-in DSP offers several modes corresponding to different usage scenarios. “Flat” maintains a neutral default setting; “Contour” adjusts the balance for music playback; “Voice” prioritizes speech-centric applications; and “Remote” enables management via the dedicated control system.
These presets make it easy to switch from a conference to music playback without having to manually reconfigure the entire system’s processing. However, they do not replace level adjustment, speaker placement, or system sizing based on the venue.
Can it be integrated into a networked audio system?
The 110 Sub A features an Ethernet connection and supports Milan AVB audio transmission. It can therefore be integrated into a compatible network infrastructure to transport digital audio and function as part of a centralized professional setup.
Using Milan AVB requires that the rest of the network and associated equipment be compatible with this protocol. A simple connection to a standard Ethernet network is not sufficient to guarantee audio transmission in all installations.
What is the DSP output used for?
The DSP output can send a processed signal to an active speaker or other compatible equipment. In particular, it can be used to power a delay line or a supplementary system while maintaining consistent signal management from the main configuration.
This output is intended for active equipment or devices with their own amplification. It does not replace the E-Connect MK2 outputs designed for the column’s passive modules.
Is it suitable for conferences and corporate events?
Its compact size, 10-inch speaker, and the configuration options of the ELEMENTS MK2 system make it particularly well-suited for installations where speech must remain intelligible without the need for large subwoofers. The Voice preset also provides a specific starting point for speech-centric applications.
For an event featuring extensive music playback or requiring more low-frequency output, the number and type of subwoofers should be selected based on the audience size, room volume, and expected sound level.
Can it be placed horizontally?
The enclosure can be mounted vertically or horizontally. This flexibility makes it easy to integrate under a stage, against a wall, or in a setup where headroom is limited.
However, the positioning must remain compatible with the assembly of other ELEMENTS MK2 components and with the configuration planned for the event.
Is it designed for regular professional use?
The hybrid enclosure and the steel grille with anti-corrosion treatment are suited for the repeated setup and takedown typical of live performances and rental applications. The amplification and signal processing are built-in, which also reduces the number of separate devices that need to be installed.
To truly take advantage of its advanced features—including the Milan AVB network, DSP outputs, and the various ELEMENTS MK2 configuration options—it is primarily intended for users who are already proficient in setting up a professional sound system.
