The MARTIN & CO Custom Shop CS-OM-C23035502 #2816483 is an Orchestra Model 14 fret steel-string acoustic guitar for which the Star's Music team selected the wood species on site, in the Custom Shop Martin workshops (in this case it was set #15). All the woods are solid, of course, and it features a Sitka Spruce top and bracing, a Honduras Rosewood back and sides combo, and an Ebony fingerboard.
Sitka spruce is the traditional choice for the vast majority of acoustic guitars. Thanks to a perfect balance between robustness and elasticity, Sitka generates a direct, punchy sound with impeccable articulation. These characteristics give Sitka great flexibility of sound and adaptability to virtually any playing style: strumming, flatpicking or fingerpicking. Koa is a tropical hardwood endemic to the island of Hawaii. It's a dense wood that combines the rich midrange of mahogany with the brilliance of maple. Instruments made from Koa will inevitably improve with years of use, gaining in warmth, smoothness and openness.
