The MARTIN & CO Custom Shop Super D CS-SUPERD-10CE10-KOA Sitka VTS/Koa #2720448 is a Dreadnought Super D style steel-string acoustic guitar, with Sitka VTS spruce top, Koa back and sides, and Ebony fingerboard (all species are of course solid and selected with the greatest intransigence for their acoustic and aesthetic qualities).

Martin has already produced oversized Dreadnoughts (D-45S Authentic 1936 inspired by an instrument belonging to the C.F. Martin Museum Collection), but this Super D (Super Dreadnought) is the largest Dreadnought offered by the brand to date. The internal volume of the Super D is some 20% greater than that of a standard Dreadnought. Its traditional body depth and optimized bracing for this size allow for increased low frequencies, while maintaining balanced mids and highs. Sitka spruce is the traditional choice for the vast majority of acoustic guitars. Thanks to a perfect balance between robustness and elasticity, Sitka generates a direct, punchy sound with impeccable articulation. These characteristics give Sitka great flexibility of sound and adaptability to virtually any playing style: strumming, flatpicking or fingerpicking. Koa is a tropical hardwood endemic to the island of Hawaii. It's a dense wood that combines the rich midrange of mahogany with the brilliance of maple. Instruments made from Koa will inevitably improve with years of use, gaining in warmth, smoothness and openness. The Spruce top and bracing have been subjected to the exclusive VTS (Vintage Tone System) torrefaction process. This is a high-temperature thermo-chemical treatment of the species that gives them the appearance and acoustic behavior of ancient woods.
